IP25 OpenHouse – the Surface Matrix for new decors
THERE IS A MUSHROOM IN THE DESIGN DEPARTMENT
A joke? Not at Interprint. Because what can you do when everything repeats itself? When trends quote themselves? Interprint no longer just asks the question: “What's new?” – but: “What's possible?” The IP25 Open House in Arnsberg provided some initial insights. What happens when algorithms don't imitate wood, but interpret it? When new materials grow from paper waste? When design is not just a surface – but a starting point? IP25 does not follow a strict timetable. IP25 is an open process. A stage: for new perspectives and genuine co-creation.
Why not make mushrooms the Head of Design?
Nature has always been a role model. But never like this! The cooperation with the Cologne mushroom farm Pilzling shows that mushrooms are masters of improvisation. They grow with an incredible instinct for shape and color. Spirals, fine lines, structures, more precise than any algorithm could calculate. A real fungi fever dream. #Nature
When is a circle truly round?
Interprint has been supporting the Lisbon-based studio BY THE END OF MAY for some time. How can local production and recycling processes help to shape an economy beyond mass consumption and alienation? Ideas become concrete products. Acoustic panels are created from lnterprint's own paper waste. A cycle that is circular because new things are created from old things that last. #Society
Where does good design begin?
The artist Veronika Moos understands material as a counterpart, not as a tool. Her Textile works show that every material has a life of its own – with traces and resistances. A design does not have to be perfect to be relevant. It can have corners, gaps, structure. This is precisely what inspires Interprint. Because good design is created when material is taken seriously – not just as a surface, but as a starting point for new ideas. #Material
Can AI think wood?
Does everything always have to be authentically reproduced? What happens when digital technologies are added? onformative, the interdisciplinary innovation studio at the interface of art, design and technology, interprets the complex interactions between humans, nature and technology. Can water be cut? Can wood be processed with AI? Computer-aided digital textures are created that cannot exist in the physical world. Familiar and yet surprisingly new. #Tech
Can past aesthetics interfere with future innovations?
Trends are not enemies – but they are not a solution either. Interprint's vision? To create spaces that can evolve. That don't ask for the next look, but for long-term ideas. New answers instead of copy-paste. Inspiring ideas were also contributed by people from outside the industry. Scientists, doctors, artists, industrial designers, architects, AI programmers – co-creation at its best. #Vision
What is IP25?
In the year 2025, Interprint asks itself a simple question: “What happens when decor design no longer waits for the next trend, but starts to create new perspectives itself?” The answer is an invitation to think along: five themes – Nature, Society, Material, Tech and Vision – form. the basis for an expedition that explores what is possible.
Let's be honest, if you've been in the industry for a while, you often think: “Wait a minute, I've seen that before.” That's precisely the problem with trends. They build on what has gone before instead of creating something new. “What if we thought about design differently? As an open, experimental Surface Matrix in which materials, technologies and people resonate with each other?” asked Steffen Fillibeck, Global Director Marketing & Design at Interprint. “The really interesting ideas have never come from trend reports. They came from artists, scientists – people who didn't even know that trends existed. Let's think of Leonardo da Vinci. The man was both an artist and a scientist. He never would have followed a trend.”
In May, several hundred international decision-makers from the industry and creative heads therefore made a detour to the IP25 OpenHouse. What they found there was an open insight into a design process that deliberately avoids quick answers. While Interprint inspired new ways of thinking, the first products based on these ideas were already on display. New flooring ideas, AI-based designs, incredible decors from the BEYOND Edition and technical innovations from TOPPAN.

And now?
That was just the beginning. IP25 continues – with changing questions, growing insights and open formats. Anyone who not only wants to see design, but also think about it, is invited. Because IP25 is a journey – beyond the beaten trend paths. And it has only just begun. interprint.com/ip25
